Podcasts are growing in popularity in the U.S. but around the world as well. The percentage of Americans that tune into podcasts on a daily basis is 25% (70 million) and is expected to grow in years to come. More people are liking and tuning into podcasts because they can choose topics and stories that they like best and podcasts are also very entertaining.
If a business has a podcast it allows them to better connect and relate themselves to their customers, also known as audience. By creating podcasts they can extend to many people and they can provide insightful information about their very own products and correctly inform people about them.
Podcast from Jordan Harbinger 156: Jaron Lanier / “Why You Should Unplug from Social Media for Good”
The Host of the show Jordan Harbinger started out the podcast talking about what will be discussed during it, and in this certain podcast they talked about how people should get rid of social media. The guest Jaron Lanier wrote the book “Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now”. This guest stated that social media controls what we see, think, and feel.
The quality of the material covered is very good. The guest talks about his life in the past a lot in the beginning to show how he came to his life now and how he developed to not have a love for social media. The host then dives into Jaron Lanier’s book and talks about social media. Even though Jared Lanier is against most social media he states that some social media is good such as GitHub. It is not about manipulating you and it seems to improve the lives of people in it.
There was no intro music in the very beginning and no transition music from the host talking to introducing the guest host. I listen to many podcasts and I am use to some type of music in the beginning as well as transition music. The podcast was like a conversation, the host asked the guest questions and the guest would respond. They both seemed to be comfortable talking about the guest Jaron Lanier’s past life, and they would laugh and joke with each other. The host references Jaron Lanier’s book a lot pulling great information from it.
There weren’t many features or special features of the podcast. When the podcast went on a break, the host would talk about their sponsors that sponsored them. For example, Athletic greens sponsored this podcast as well as design crowd.
Overall I thought the podcast was good, it had a lot of information in it and I did learn a lot. It could definitely use some music during it, but overall it was interesting to listen to and very informative.
