” 5 tips for success when starting out in night sky photography”
This lesson described tips and went into detail on how to take pictures of the night sky.
The fist tip talks about the different types of night sky to photograph . This includes the Milky Way, Stars and moon, Star trails and deep space objects.
The second tip that was talked about was the equipment required for taking night sky photos. The lesson stated that a Camera, lens and Tripod are required.
For a camera , make sure to have one that has been made within the past 5 years , because older cameras will have a hard time in low – light situations. It explains that Full frame cameras and crop-sensor cameras are good to use.
The Lens is in fact more important than the camera, and that you will need a lens that opens very wide. For example 2.8 or more.
Getting a photo of the night sky is hard and takes a long time and in oder to get one that looks still is to invest in a very good tripod. If you have a good camera it is worth investing money into a good tripod. Another tip was to buy a remote to take the picture instead of pressing a button on the camera because that could cause the camera to shake
The third tip from the lesson was how to find dark skies. It is hard to find dark skies but the author of this lesson says that she travels up to one and a half hours from her home at night and still the sky isn’t all that dark. In order for her to get complete dark she has to travel very far but for practicing traveling only an hour and a half is enough for her. The author uses a website called Lightpollution.com to search for skies that are darker.
The fourth tip is how to determine if there will be clear skies. The author mentions that the weather app is just an okay tool to figure out if it will be cloudy or not. So she uses a website called ClearDarkSky.com and this website will show the forecasted cloud cover for up to 48 hours which is better than a weather app.
The fifth tip from this lesson is what camera setting to use for night sky photography. The author says to use RAW format, to work the camera into manual mode and then settings will depend on the type of night sky someone is trying to get a photo of and what kind of camera they are using.
The quality of the material incorporated with this lesson was very good. This lesson gave amazing tips on how to take photos of the night sky and the tips were very professional. At the end of the lesson it included a page about the author what she does! I found that to be helpful to know that this lesson on photography is real and professionally written. “5 Pieces of Advice That Every New Photographer Should Know”
This article explained and went into depth about what new new photographers should focus on and how to become a great photographer.
Ignore the Market : Under this first tip of advice the articles states that the first camera you get should not be one you can afford and make you broke. You do not need to spend an absurd amount of money. It also says that you do not need to buy a camera every few months, learn how to work yours and become a professional with your camera.
Learn from others : Look for advice from people who have had experience with photography and cameras. This includes professors, family and friends. Or online as well. Also learn from peoples mistakes and teach yourself why did they make that mistake or how can I correct that mistake?
Give yourself a project: It is said that if you give yourself a project it will result you into becoming more motivated to take nice photos and make sure they are of good quality and it is a good resume builder! Giving yourself a project will also make taking photos more meaningful to you as you are putting the time and effort into them instead of just taking random photos of things you like.
Publish your own work: As we know getting published can be very hard and doesn’t happen to everyone. With this being said publish your own work and maybe something will come to you in the long run!
Hold on to your Love: With everything, in time you become distracted or discouraged and frustrated. When you get into photography this will happen to you and you have to learn to power through it and know it is all worth it in the end. The article states “Don’t loose sight of what you fell in love with”
