Hey everyone! For reflection 4 (week 7 & 8), I read two articles and took a video of myself reviewing the two articles!
Apple Watch fall detection sent emergency services to the aid of an 80-year-old women

This article was about an 80 year old women who lives in Germany and owns an apple watch. One day she fell and her apple watch detected it and called the ambulance
The apple watch also called her emergency contact and that was her son. Her son and the ambulance both showed up in a matter of minutes to help her
Some might wonder how did the ambulance find the women’s location so quickly and that is because the apple watch will also send the persons location to the emergency number it calls
When the ambulance showed up they looked at her and determined that she was okay and that her son should stay with her and take care of her
Its very fortunate that she ended up being okay! There have been other occasions with other older adults where they have fallen and hit their heads and the apple watch detection saved their lives because the ambulance was notified and came over to help right away
The fall detection app is set up on older adults apple watch just because they are more prone to fall, but recently more younger people have been setting it up on their apple watches
FDA approves a device for weight loss

The second article I read was about a new device to help with weight loss. The device when put into someones body will be located right above the stomach and it stops the vagus nerve from sending signals and takes over your hunger signals, which results in not feeling as hungry and feeling full sooner
People who get this have to have a BMI of 35-45 and have a disease or condition that relates to being obese.
This article also talked about gastric bypass surgery and how this device is better for you than that. For example, gastric bypass surgery will destroy your digestive system and this device will not
This device is expensive but compared to the surgery, it is safer and has lesser risks, the cost of the device isn’t finalized but it will be around $20,000 and $30,000 .
I thought that this article was really informing and interesting! I actually know these two people that I worked with over the summer who are older and got gastric bypass surgery and have had some negative effects after it.
